Amanda Woods

Senior Partner

Amanda Woods is the Senior Partner at Frodshams. She was admitted as a solicitor in 2002 and practises in private client law, advising clients and their families through some of the more difficult moments of life.

Trusts are a particular specialism. She drafts and administers discretionary trusts for beneficiaries who need protecting and prepares the letters of wishes that help trustees understand what the settlor intended, sometimes many years later. She advises on deeds of variation, including the two-year period in which a variation can be read back for inheritance tax purposes, and acts as a professional trustee.

Amanda is on the Office of the Public Guardian's panel of deputies for the north of England. Panel deputies are professionals the OPG puts forward for appointment by the Court of Protection, in cases where someone is unable to make particular decisions for themselves and has no family able to act. She also acts as a professional attorney — work she took on because people who are physically vulnerable but perfectly capable of deciding things for themselves can find those decisions being made by others.

As Senior Partner she is the firm's Money Laundering Reporting Officer, and helps set the firm's approach to client care. She writes and reviews private client content on this site, particularly on trusts, powers of attorney and later-life planning.
